Question

Industrial Products Industrial Products is a small light-manufacturing firm that produces a variety of control systems for heavy industry. It has a network that connects its office building and warehouse that has functioned well for the last year, but over the past week, users have begun to complain that the network is slow. Clarence Hung, the network manager, did a quick check of the number of orders over the past week and saw no real change, suggesting that there has been no major increase in network traffic. What would you suggest that Clarence do next?

Explanation / Answer

1) There may be a defective configuration which is leading to packet losses, those lost packages are retransmitted again and again which may have caused the slowing down of network.

2) There might be a change in the route or path for the transmission of packets over the network which in turn causing the increase in the time for packet transmission & thus leading to a slowed network.

3) There are chances that the authentication server is taking too long to respond.

4) There might be some applcations which are generating errors for some requests and thus not completing the process on time. The errors can be on the front end or on the back end servers.

Upgrading the applications to the latest versions may solve the problem as the updated applications contains various fixes.

5) There should be a check on the users of what they are doing on their systems. Inappropriate use of the network services may also lead to a slow down of the network.

6) There can be some bad cable connections or weak signal strength whic may cause slowing up of the network.

So, Clarence must check all the things mentioned in above points to look for the reason for the slowing up of the network.
