Case study: answer 8 questions

"My name is Chris and I do sys- tems support for our group. I configure the new computers, set up the network, make sure the servers are operating, and so forth. I also do all of the database backups. I've always liked com puters. After high school, I worked odd jobs to make some money, then I got an associate degree in information technology from our local community college. "Anyway, as I said, I make backup copies of our databases. One weekend, I didn't have much going on, so I copied one of the database backups to a DVD and took it home. I had taken a class on database processing as part of my asso- ciate degree, and we used SQL Server (our database management system) in my class. In fact, I suppose that's part of the reason I got the job. Anyway, it was easy to restore the database on my computer at home, and I did "Of course, as they'll tell you in your database class, one of the big advantages of database processing is that databases have metadata,

Explanation / Answer

Solution:

1.)

Chris should not have taken copy to his home and play around with this, since there are always some code with any organization in processing of the data. While signing the offer he must have signed an agreement. Even if he did take the DVD to his home he shouldn't have looked into it, and if he found something suspicious he should have skeptical about it and kept that as a secret since talking about the incident makes him a culprit.

2.)

Totally it's illegal and unethical from Chris point of view to to take data home and play around with that looking for something out of curiosity. curiosity doesn't justify the wrong which he did.

3.)

Of course, company will blame Chris for his sacking after what he did to the company, that is no bodies fault, even if something going wrong with valley Appliances.

4.)

After he found the odd pattern, first of all he shouldn't have told to anyone and he Jason should have been the last person to tell if he was to tell anyone, but instead of telling anyone after breaking the code of conduct of the company he should have slowly inquire about the incident and tried to put a light on this matter by there means; not by telling that he has evidences how things are suspicious in the company over valley Appliances. Because telling people about it makes him the culprit at the first place.

5.)

At least confronted him and asked him why he did what he did, and told him the reason why he is being fired.

6.)

Yes there is a possibility, that even more than two people have been involved in arrangement with Valley Appliances, he should have slowly inquire about the incident and tried to put a light on this matter by there means; not by telling that he has evidences how things are suspicious in the company over valley Appliances.

7.)

He should be looking for new job and should mention the real reason in the new job that why he got fired.

8.)

Yeah that makes things vulnerable, what companies should do is try to encode the metadata and make it restricted to the authorized person.

I hope this helps. Don't forget to give a thumbs up if you like this.
