The Social Techno graphics Model (from Forrester) offers the classification which are relevant to the marketers based on the usage of the social technologies to quantify the number of online consumers, such as,
- ‘Creator’ who focuses on social content by writing blog, upload video, text or media, write stories, etc.
- ‘Critics’ who comment on the blogs, provide their reviews, participate in discussion threads and contribute in Wiki
- ‘Collectors’ who help in organizing the content for the RSS feeds, voting sites or tagging
- ‘Joiners’ who maintain their profiles on social networking sites
- ‘Spectators’ who read other’s blog, listen to podcasts, watch videos, read online reviews for products, etc.
- ‘Inactives’ who does not get involve in social media.
Hence, these classifications help marketers to choose their social strategies and which helps marketers to understand consumer behaviors when it comes to companies, products or brands. The Social Techno graphics Model offers an overall score which helps in strategizing the marketing plan for a marketer, such as, for higher score (aka social stars) , time to showcase marketing efforts, for medium score (aka social savvies) needs support tools to carry forward the marketing plan, for lower score (aka social skippers) apply resources to social media to drive the marketing success. Also, this helps a marketer to decide on the social interaction with the social users and best use of word-of-mouth marketing.
I think this model is a good consideration for any social business endeavor in terms of getting to know your audiences and this information is always helpful in strategizing the business strategy so as the plan, helpful in chalking down the marketing plan with great deal of market research.
