Explanation / Answer

The first thing I would do is to conduct an audit and analyze the current gaps in the system. The audit will show the functional areas that require immediate attention. The functional areas of the HR department are staffing, safety, Rewards system, employee relations, and employee development. I will create new teams for every single functional area and create a list of activities to be done. The team will follow strict rules and make sure that the required changes are implemented. Based on the desired results, a benchmark will be created and the performance of each functional unit will be compared every quarter to make sure that the implementation is done right.

Examples:

Identify the training needs in the latest technologies and choose the employees to get trained. Arrange for training and provide the employees required support and facilities to learn and develop their skills. Organize an exam to make sure that the employees have learned the technology to a good extent.

Create a protocol for the employee safety at work and also organize regular fire drills to create an awareness of the importance of safety. The HR department needs to make sure that every employee in the company attends the drills and considers the safety of himself and also of other employees important.

The HR department needs to identify the top performers and appreciate them for their hard work. The employees feel encouraged when they know that the HR department takes time to appreciate the good work. The HR team should announce the names internally to all the employees and keep this performance as a benchmark and encourage other employees to better that performance.
