Question

Consider the circuit shown in the figure(Figure 1) . Suppose the four resistors in this circuit have the values R1= 12 , R2= 6.5 , R3= 7.8 , and R4= 12 , and that the emf of the battery is = 18V .Part A I1,I2,I3,I4= ?? A Find the current through each resistor using the rules for series and parallel resistors. Express your answers using two significant figures separated by commas. Part B Find the current through each resistor using Kirchhoff's rules. Express your answers using two significant figures separated by commas. I1,I2,3,I4 =??? Explanation / Answer

R1= 12 , R2= 6.5 , R3= 7.8 , and R4= 12

emf of the battery is = 18V

A)

here,

series of R2 and R4 are in parallel with R3

which in turn is in series with R1

so,

final resistance = (R2 + R4)(R3) /(R2 + R3 +R4)    +R1

                        = 144.3/26.3 + 12

                        = 17.48

so,

I(total) = 18/17.48 = 1.03 A

I(through R1) = 1.03A

I(through R2) = R3* 1.03/(R2 +R3 +R4)    = 0.305 A

I(through R3) = 0.69 A

I(through R4) = 0.305 A
